Here are some little-known facts:
1) Food banks typically run dry in the summer months.
2) The human body requires a specific protein-carbohydrate balance for proper nutrition. Food banks almost never have enough proteins to distribute - as a result, food hampers provided to clients are often not nutritionally balanced.
3) The #1 factor contributing to illiteracy is poverty.
Interested to learn more about this last fact? Here's a link to an article on the subject. by respected linguist and political activist Stephen Krashen.
With this innovative hybrid festival, promoting literacy and contributing to local food security, Culchahworks aims to help the needy, while also expanding the definition of literacy to include the public's knowledge and understanding of issues surrounding food security.
The 2018 edition of the Festival takes place on Sunday, August 12, from 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Wychwood Barns in Toronto. Hope to see you there - tell a friend!
